Pet Fair Asia 2018 closed successfully

The 21st edition of Pet Fair Asia took place at Shanghai New International Expo Center on 22-26 August 2018. With 10 halls (140,000sqm) and 1300 exhibitors, the exhibition reached a new threshold of exposure in the fastest growing market worldwide, allowing professionals to access the widest representation of pet supplies in Asia-Pacific.

During the first 3 days, 48.325 trade visitors walked the show (+25.84%/2017), including 4210 from overseas (+26.61%). 81.7% of professional visitors declared attending for purchasing purpose, 95.8% to learn about brands and new products. Strong interest was shown in all represented exhibits: upstream suppliers, manufacturers, brands, distributors, service providers and e-commerce giants. The extended supply chain coverage at Pet Fair Asia allows unprecedented vertical business interactions, from raw materials and machinery down to end-users (145,000 persons during the weekend).

International brands were omnipresent on site, at their distributor stands and through standalone corporate booths or national pavilions. The size of China and the fierce competition make it necessary for brands to find additional regional distributors while being able to communicate directly with growing numbers of international visitors. Asian buyers were already very well represented at Pet Fair Asia (South-Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.). This edition marked a rapid increase of visitors from new markets, in particular from Vietnam, the Philippines, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

On the domestic side, Chinese companies jumped to a new level in terms of branding and geographic business outreach. 77.6% exhibitors declared doing business both in China and overseas, 13.2% exclusively outbound and 9.2% locally. Traditional exporters continue to transform their business model towards domestic sales, with multiple new brands on display supported by outstanding marketing budget – up to 500,000 euros spent in 4 days by the newly launched “Frog Brand”.

Numerous events took place along the show: 8th International Pet Industry Summit, 7th Petfood Forum China, 5th Annual Meeting for Pet Hospital Management, 11st Shanghai Veterinary Conference, seminars on retail development, pet and aquarium retail convergence, etc… The busy show floor was filled with activities: live TV show, dog and cat shows, dog sport tournament, small pet park…

In 2019, Pet fair Asia will continue to grow with 1600 exhibitors and 20.000 brands in 14 halls /185.000sqm and continuously adapting to the rapid evolution of market.
